Spring Time Vanilla Cupcakes

I mainly wanted to work with pretty Spring colors so I thought the best way to do that was to make some yummy buttercream! What goes well with buttercream? Delicious vanilla cupcakes of course! As i’ve mentioned in previous blog posts baking is very new to me. I actually didn’t do much baking besides the occasional chocolate chip cookies until I started my blog a few months ago. The whole point of my blog is to have easy, relatable, and fun recipes whether that be desserts, main entrees, appetizers, cocktails, or wine! I am learning as I go and am in no means a professional chef or baker. I am simply a recently certified sommelier with a love for creating delicious recipes that people will want to try themselves. I usually get inspired by other food blogger’s recipes and then recreate it to make it my own. I also am throwing in some lifestyle posts here and there because at the end of the day I am a 23 year old girl who loves the occasional cute fashion post! LOL.


Vanilla Cupcake Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 2 cups  sugar

  • 3 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk milk

  • 1/2 cup  vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Vanilla Cupcake Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F and prepare cupcake pan with liners

  2. Add sifted flour, sugar, baking powder and salt to stand mixer

  3. Combine and set aside

  4. Add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, sour cream, and eggs to medium sized bowl and whisk to combine

  5. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the try until just combined

  6. Fill cupcake liners about halfway full and bake for 15-20 min until toothpick comes out clean

  7. Let cool on rack at least 20 minutes before frosting!

I have practiced with a few buttercream recipes and finally created one that was easiest for me to pipe with, so here it is! 

Buttercream Ingredients

  • 1 lb butter, unsalted

  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp corn syrup


  1. Using a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment combine butter and powdered sugar until smooth

  2. Add extract, salt, and corn syrup

  3. Mix until smooth

  4. Add food coloring if desired

  5. Put into piping bag and frost cupcakes
